Leicester FPL players
Let’s sift through Leicester’s FPL team and make some recommendations.
🥅 Goalkeepers
At £5.5m, Kasper Schmeichel isn’t necessarily the outstanding candidate in his price range but Leicester do have favourable early fixtures.
He’s not the one we’d go for, but he wouldn’t be an unjustifiable choice.
👬 Defenders
The Foxes aren’t entering the new season with anything like the momentum they took into the last one.
However, away to Man City in Gameweek 3 notwithstanding, their opening matches look great – and defensive solidity will help them regain their footing.
One to watch is £4.5m James Justin, who should start at right-back in the absence of Ricardo Pereira.
However, it looks as if Pereira – who could justify his £6m fee if Leicester regain top form, but not until then – will be back sooner rather than later.
🏃 Midfielders
James Maddison at £7m is arguably worth a punt on the basis that he started the last two seasons strongly before tailing off dramatically.
But there are so many great midfield options elsewhere that it wouldn’t feel like money well spent – ditto on the similarly priced Harvey Barnes.
At least with Barnes he’s got some recent form to encourage, rather than having to rely on a pattern with Maddison that may well be obsolete in these circumstances.
Don’t even consider £6.5m Ayoze Pérez until there’s any kind of sign of him regularly starting and scoring.
🥳 Forwards
It feels counter-intuitive to talk down the prospects of Jamie Vardy, but at £10m he doesn’t strike as value for money.
Danny Ings, Anthony Martial, Timo Werner and Raúl Jiménez are all cheaper, while an extra £0.5m would bump you up to Harry Kane or Sergio Agüero.
Kelechi Iheanacho is one of the better £6m options available, but he’s not a guaranteed starter so you’d be better off with Aleksandar Mitrović.
