Let’s delve deeper into Everton’s FPL team and make some recommendations.
🥅 Goalkeepers
With Everton having ended last season so poorly, it’s not hard to imagine Carlo Ancelotti prioritising defence.
Starting from the back is a tried and tested method of getting an underperforming team back on track – indeed, Ancelotti’s arrival initially saw a run of clean sheets.
If Jordan Pickford remains first choice – and after a poor year, he might not – then he could be a surprising bargain at £5m.
👬 Defenders
£4m Jarrad Branthwaite has attracted attention after starting the last couple of games of last season, but he’s unlikely to be first-choice.
£5m Mason Holgate is worth monitoring because his flick-ons from set pieces resulted in four assists in the 2019-20 campaign.
£6m Lucas Digne is the one with the most potential upside – as reflected by his price – but we’d avoid him until there’s a clearer picture of Everton defensively.
For that kind of money, someone like Matt Doherty of Wolves might be a safer bet for now.
🏃 Midfielders
The only remotely interesting selection here is £4.5m youngster Anthony Gordon, one of the few bright sparks of Everton’s dreadful last few matches.
He probably won’t be a starter, but as a cheap enabler to save funds for elsewhere he’s well worth a place on your bench.
🥳 Forwards
It’s a shame that Richarlison is listed as a forward this time round because he’d have been a strong candidate as an £8m midfielder.
As it is, if you want a Toffees forward you’re probably better off saving £1m and going for Dominic Calvert-Lewin instead.
He may have had a dry spell following the restart, but he’d enjoyed a prolific few months prior to that and looks impressive with the right service.
Don’t start with either of these two but see how they get on in the opening weeks as there is potentially value to be had in either.
