These are the best of the Adam Johnson sacked jokes after Sunderland announced that they had today terminated his contract with immediate effect.
The former England international pleaded guilty to one count of sexual activity with a child and one charge of grooming on Wednesday and was reportedly sacked “hours after he was dropped for Saturday’s Premier League match against Manchester United”.
He is due to face trial on two further counts of sexual activity with a child on Friday, which he denies.
The club released a short statement on Thursday and Adidas are also said to have cancelled their agreement with the player.
