These are the best jokes proffered in the wake of news that Marseille had for some reason decided to sign Sunderland striker Steven Fletcher on deadline day.
The 1993 European champions also raised eyebrows with a foiled attempt to bring in Stoke forward and erstwhile deadline day star Peter Odemwingie, as well as successful loan deals for Newcastle flops Florian Thauvin and Rémy Cabella.
But none have been greeted with as much bemusement as Marseille’s signing of Steven Fletcher, as these jokes are testament to:
