These Germany fans mourned their side’s World Cup exit by lowering a national flag to half mast and playing “Taps” on the trumpet.

A bugle call traditionally performed at military funerals, “Taps” provided a suitably sombre soundtrack for the reigning champions bowing out at the group stage.

A 2-0 defeat to South Korea ensured the Germans’ exit, with Sweden and Mexico qualifying from Group F instead.
