Greed punished.

Astra Giurgiu defender Valentin Gheorghe tried to steal a teammate’s goal and ended up causing it to be called offside in a Cupa României match at Universitatea Cluj.

The Round of 16 tie at the Cluj Arena descended into farce when the home side, 3-4 down, went in search of a dramatic late equaliser.

Their goalkeeper comes up for a set piece but is caught out when the ball breaks Astra’s way and they launch a counter attack.

Midfielder Laurentiu Bus rolls the ball towards an unguarded net and looks all set to wrap the game up, only for Gheorghe to steal in and attempt to claim it.

His intervention causes the goal to be ruled out for offside, but in any case Astra managed to hang on for the win.
