One Napoli fan couldn’t hold back the tears after his seeing his team go 1-0 down at Anfield in Tuesday night’s Champions League defeat to Liverpool.

Although just 38 minutes of the decisive Group C match had passed by that point, Mohamed Salah’s opening goal made the travelling Italian supporter cry.

Carlo Ancelotti’s men needed just a point to qualify for the knockout stages in 2nd place behind PSG, but Jürgen Klopp’s Reds managed to hold on for the win.

Liverpool’s victory means they have progressed beyond the Champions League group stage in successive seasons for the first time since the 2008-09 campaign.

They reached the final of last year’s competition, eventually losing 3-1 to Real Madrid.

Napoli will now compete in the Europa League having finished 3rd in the group, with Red Star Belgrade coming last.
