An Aston Villa fan gleefully ran to get the ball when it was kicked into the stands at their Carabao Cup second round clash in Crewe, but didn’t manage to return it.

The travelling Premier League fans had a joyous time at Crewe Alexandra’s Gresty Road on Tuesday night, securing a 6-1 win after young centre-back Ezri Konsa opened the scoring in just the fourth minute.

Deep into added time at the end of the ninety, the ball was launched into the away end and disappeared down one of the aisles.

Aston Villa YouTuber Max Stokes, who was there covering the game, seized his opportunity to go and get it before aiming a kick back onto the pitch.

However all did not go to plan and the ball failed to reappear.

After his attempted retrieval, Stokes then faced the home supporters, noticed by the commentator on Sky who was forced to apologise for his actions.
