Who cares what a bunch of disinterested hacks have to say when you can get the skinny direct from those to whom it matters most? Well, good news – Football Burp’s very own Jonny Forumer, lurker extraordinaire, is here to collate choice message board analysis so you can get the lowdown from the people who really know what they’re on about. Take it away, Jonny…
Morning folks, Jonny Forumer signing in. West Bromwich Albion moved up to 4th in the Premier League after beating reigning Champions League champions Chelsea 2-1 at the Hawthorns, and suffice it to say Baggies fans are pinching themselves more than a sentient sheet of bubble wrap with its own pair of hands and a nervous disposition. As such, I hotfooted it down to online West Brom joint WestBrom.com to see what they were saying about this heady start to life under new manager Steve Clarke…

Semaj Riatsila…
Well that is just absolutely fantastic. We worked socks off and have come away with all 3 points. In 4th place due to other results and Villa get thrashed.
Can it get any better?
boinging_along…
Amazing result. I was worried having Myhill in but he was superb today, didn’t put a foot wrong. Shoved my words right back down my throat!
Don’t think anyone had a poor game today. I hope Mulumbu’s hamstring is ok. Long was outstanding, head and shoulders man of the match. Odemwingie was excellent today too, did a lot of tracking back and winning the ball in the second half.
We’ve deserved that the way we’ve played this season.

Shane Long is just getting better and better, he’s been absolutely fantastic recently.
DudleyLad…
Im sure I read somewhere that Long was working alot with Fortune last season and I feel this can be seeing in the way he holds play up and has worked the channels at times this season.
Hes our most improved player alongside Morrison in my view.

No big deal – fifth, playing at home, beats third and goes fourth. Pretty routine really.
Seriously, an unbelievable victory. As GrGr has already said there were 14 heroes out there today.
I particularly liked the way we stepped up when Mulumbu was injured – we just reorganised calmly, knowing we have strength in depth, and coped with it.
I thought Long was outstanding, but Boaz Myhill must take the plaudits. He’s sat on the bench all season, but when it mattered he was there for us.
KingKoren…
Some immense performances today.
Tamas, Olsson, Long, Myhill, Yacob.
I have to go for Odemwingie [as Man of the Match] today. Phenomenal work rate, got the goal, simply outstanding.
MICKYMEL…
With us flying so high it wont have gone unnoticed and I await the inevitable approaches from the vultures trying to take our players….
Resist JP, good things are happening!
AlbionBest…
Dare we say but it’s starting to feel like 30 odd years ago when we were confident as fans, a club and a team to mix it with ANYONE at the top level ?
Now, where’s big Ron !!!!
LiamTheBaggie…
So proud of them today would be my way of describing the game. Immensely proud of every single one of them.
I have to mention the atmosphere first off. Top quality and the best in the long while. I think it was epitomised in the second half when the ground just exploded into life when Odemwingie robbed Ryan Bertrand of the ball in-front of the East Stand. Credit to the fans who were the 12th man today. Superb from all of us.
As for the performance, strength, grit, desire, commitment, willingness would be some of the words which sum it up. Defended excellently well as a side from back to front, there were moments where we rode our luck but we’ve been due some and thankfully today everything went for us.
4th in the league continuing our superb start. As someone said to me in the ground – “Let’s just cherish it”

Loving life at the moment!
Everyone was brilliant today. Management, Starting xi, subs and the fans. Myhill has come in and not put a foot wrong, can’t ask for anything more. Tamas did well at the back, didn’t miss McAuley at all.
Long is just superb, one of my favourite Albion players ever. But today’s man of the match for me was Odemwingie. He was just brilliant, he was absolutely everywhere and his boing boinging at the end was fantastic, although it probably needs a bit of work!
Hope everyone has their passports at the ready!
Baggies…
Shane Long and Peter Odemwingie put in a shift for three games, let alone one. hat was probably Odemwingies best game for us – even better than Wolves away. The Odemwingie tackle stat was brilliant – 6 completed tackles out of 6 and ive never seen him work that hard before. Shane Long is also proving to be one of the best crossers of the ball we have. If he carries on this way he will be coveted by the best teams in Europe, seriously. He has 4 or 5 assists already and also his fair share of goals.
Also a special mention to Boaz Myhill. Wow, what a way to say you want the shirt for a prolonged period.
All of the team were brilliant today though, every single one of them.
the rainbow turn east…
We are actually 4th in the league and to be where we are you need more than strength, grit, desire, commitment, and willingness, you need quality which is what we have. Megsons team had all the above but had no quality.
LiamTheBaggie…
I think the quality is a given – we’re all aware of the quality in this side.
I look at Youssouf Mulumbu throwing himself in-front of bodies to block the ball, soldiering on despite signalling to come off with a hamstring injury. I think of Claudio Yacob, sliding to beat Chelsea players to the ball, and then get up to run past one to start a counter attack. I look at Peter Odemwingie who is suspect defensively, tracking back helping Billy Jones out making 6 tackles and timing them all spot on.I think of Boaz Myhill jumping on top of the ball and taking a smack in the face in the process.
I do think we can add more quality to our performances, especially going forward, but today was workmanlike with the quality where it was needed – Fantastic stuff and immensely proud of the Football club.
Albion79…
Pretty much agree with every other comment on here, just so proud to be an Albion fan tonight!
I dont think anybody had a bad game but i thought Myhill and Tamas were brilliant especially considering there lack of games, Mulumbu and Yacob were brilliant, i think Yacob really stood out, he just puts his foot on the ball when others may panic and just keeps everything ticking over, Shane Long was immense, anybody can work hard but to have the ability to go with it like he has is just something else, defenders must hate playing against him! As i say i think all were brilliant but for me Odemwingie was man of the match, best i have seen him today, not just his goal but his workrate, use of the ball, skills, everything was just spot on from him.
We have just beat the european champions, a side who have been playing well this season (not so much last few games) and have multi million pound players throughout the squad and although they had more possession and corners, for out and out chances there wasnt a lot in it and i think we deserved the win.
I am so determined not to get carried away but there is something special at the Albion at the moment, the whole spirit and togetherness and the momentum keeps building, we will have off days, we all know that and knowing us we will lose next week but there is something building at the moment, you can sense it between the players, staff and fans, its like the Megson squad but with a lot more skill and ability!
Its no longer a fluke or surprise to be 4th, we deserve to be there and long may it continue!
BigFrank20…
There was one particular moment today when I thought to myself ‘theres something special happenng here today’ Yacob was in the centre circle, two or threee Chelsea players around him and trying to get the ball from him and not succeding and the as the referee gave him his well deserved free kick a spontanious round of applause broke out for him and his effort from all four sides of the ground. What an amazing afternoon it’s been!!!!!
rubyruby…
That was the class moment of the afternoon BF. It just typified the amazing team effort. Yacobs positioning is absolutely superb. He is always in good position to receive the ball. He really understands the flow of a game.
socalbaggie…
Was a great organized team effort!! Everyone gave it 110%. I can see the great team spirit in this squad a togetherness no egos all playing for each other for the common goal!! Even when Chelsea brought on their subs we handled them well on the most part. Tamas and Myhill a big two thumbs up for stepping in and doing a tremendous job against a team like Chelsea. I am thrilled with this gonna have a great week!!! Great job!!
How high do you think the Baggies can finish this season, West Brom fans? Have your say in the comments section below…
