Red Devils left so ensconced in mediocrity by Stoke defeat that it's no longer enough to call them just 'United'.

Manchester United humiliation no longer merits miles and miles of column inches, it has been universally acknowledged.

The Red Devils, embattled, were left so ensconced in mediocrity by Saturday’s 2-1 defeat to Stoke City that it’s now no longer even enough to refer to them as just plain old ‘United’ in a headline and have everyone know who you’re referring to.

Speaking exclusively to Football Burp, Brian, an alchemist from Woking, noted that his reaction to seeing ‘United’ in a headline is no longer one of “oh, they must be talking about Manchester United”.

He said: “Now I think of all sorts of Uniteds.

“Newcastle United. West Ham United. Sheffield United. Oxford United.

“Scunthorpe United. I mean, I could carry on.”
