Spain qualified for the last 16 of the World Cup as winners of Group B following Iago Aspas’s last-minute equaliser against Morocco on Monday night.
The 2-2 draw, which saw another host of VAR controversies, means the Spaniards finish ahead of Portugal on goals scored with Cristiano Ronaldo’s side only managing a 1-1 draw with Iran.
Khalid Boutaïb put the Moroccans ahead after 14 minutes before an Isco reply just five minutes later.
Youssef En-Nesyri’s 81st minute goal looked set to give Morocco a shock win as well as imperiling Spain’s hopes of reaching the knockout stages.
Fortunately for Fernando Hierro’s side, former Liverpool forward Iago Aspas flicked home with his heel in stoppage time.
