Jonny Forumer: Everton fans hail Osman upon surprise England call-up

Jonny ForumerWho cares what a bunch of disinterested hacks have to say when you can get the skinny direct from those to whom it matters most? Well, good news – Football Burp’s very own Jonny Forumer, lurker extraordinaire, is here to collate choice message board analysis so you can get the lowdown from the people who really know what they’re on about. Take it away, Jonny…

Morning folks, Jonny Forumer signing in. Leon Osman has been an important part of David Moyes’s Everton sides for the best part of a decade now, so the Goodison Park faithful were of course delighted to learn that, aged 31, he has finally received the England call-up he should arguably have been handed years before now. I hotfooted it on down to online Toffees joints NSNO and Grand Old Team to see what folk were saying about it…

Leon Osman
Osman… Taking the news in his stride

Shogan, NSNO…

thoroughly deserved.

Really happy for him, hopefully he gets on the pitch as he probably thought it would never happen.

arch stanton, Grand Old Team…

He has his critics but he’s way better than some of the mooks who have been selected recently. Good on ya lid, lets hope you get on the pitch and strut your silky stuff

New Free Transfer Signing, NSNO…

Deserved, don’t care what anyone says. The amount of shit that’s been called up before him is a joke. Won’t be a regular but I’d have him on the bench for the “proper” qualifying matches. He’s better than Milner, miles ahead of Cleverley atm, and how Jake Livermore gets a cap and he doesn’t is an absolute disgrace. Well done Ossie, you deserve it.

BlueWeasel, Grand Old Team…

Brilliant news! Made up for the lad.

Also, is this because we’re part of the big four now?!

School of Science, NSNO…

Well done Ossie absolutley deserves it ahead of some of the dross thats been picked for England,i,e Shelvey,Henderson and Downing, hope he plays and scores. The only thing missing from his game is pace,if he had pace lord knows how good he’d be,

tasslehoff, Grand Old Team…

Best news I have heard in ages. Genuine big smile came on my face when I heard that. ****ing made up. Well done lad.

74Blue, NSNO…

International’s do tend to be a little slower than premier league games, so pace shouldn’t really be a huge issue for him. Technically, Ossie is superb, so he should be even better at international level.
I have said before that if he had moved to La Liga or Serie A, where games are much more technical and played at a slightly slower tempo than the English game, when he was younger he would be a legend now because he has pretty much everything in his locker apart from pace.

Jags..class, Grand Old Team…

Great news, made up for the lad, it was becoming a disgrace that he was being ignored, our little wizzard must be buzzing right now.

Ridge, NSNO…

I think it has certainly helped his chances, with Jags and Baines becoming more prominent figures in the England team.

I wonder if Hodgson might try and use him as the English Pienaar, understanding Baines and his movement.

Bryan, Grand Old Team…

Made up, future Everton captain.

nomorechang, NSNO…

He totally deserves to be capped for his country. I’m delighted for him and it wouldn’t surprise me if he takes to international football like a natural.

Tubey, Grand Old Team…

Bizarre.

Hope he gets a cap but it’s a good five years too late!!!

Fair play to Hodgson for having the balls to recognise him.

blargins, NSNO…

I never expected it to happen. Great for him, I think he will do well at that level.

Royal Blue Jersey, Grand Old Team…

Yeah. I do agree. That’s why I’m really chuffed for him, because given the traditional England setup, it is a huge surprise. But I’m not shocked, because he has been playing so well its impossible to ignore.

steve81, NSNO…

i havent heard one supporter of another team moan as they are as made up as we are they all say hes a class act who should have been picked past few years

Woolly Blue, Grand Old Team…

Well in Leon.He gets a lot of stick from some Blues but give him time on the ball and quality round him and he often shines. He’s ( mostly ) played well this season and I hope the lad from Billinge, Woolshire gets on the pitch.

LEEEEE-ON

TheRam, NSNO…

His performance in the derby was immense. Never seen anyone his size impose themselves on a game like him.

Made up for him

justmeinit, Grand Old Team…

Just goes to show how much the media influence decisions. Like others have said he should have been called up years ago, But now this season with the media praising our start and style he gets the call up

Si, NSNO…

in international football he will get much more time on the ball and he’ll be able to show what a great player he is – if given the chance

rishtonstreet, Grand Old Team…

Finally, some recognition for the creative skill most evident this year. Not sure he would have got in the squad 5 years ago if Hodgson had been around but you can never get a cap too late in my opinion. Hope he does get a showing and it gives him the confidence to play that little bit better for the blues.

Anna, Grand Old Team…

I’m made up for him, i’ve always been a big Ossie supporter. Technically he is brilliant, and his work rate is flawless, I always just wanted him to get down the gym and bulk up a bit, make him harder to knock off the ball.

As others have said I don’t expect this to be anything more than a token cap or two, but fair play to Hodgson for actually selecting players on current form.

Silas, NSNO…

Never been a more deserving and overdue call up in my opinion.
