A wobbly halfway line was painted on the pitch for Thursday’s Uruguayan Primera División match between Progreso and Peñarol.

After heavy rain had erased the original markings on the field at the Parque Abraham Paladino in Montevideo, one man was tasked with redrawing them.

As you can see from the photos, his efforts with a bucket of white paint and a paintbrush fell some way short of satisfactory.

In the game itself, away side Peñarol won 2-0 to leave them 2nd in the table behind Liverpool, who are so named due to historical cultural ties with the English city.
