We’re delighted to bring you the first episode of new Sunday League football show Royal Oak FC, the titular team of which you shall now be informed about…
Royal Oak FC were founded in 1997, out of the ashes of the old Coach and Horses side. Their original home was Grenoside Park Fields until relocating to their present home pitch at Wynne Gardens. The team plays in the Sheffield and District Sunday League and is managed by Paul Beacroft and his assistant Steve Bracknall.
Paul and Steve had always dreamed of running their own football club, and when local pub The White Swan closed they decided to ask landlord and landlady Terry and June if they would sponsor a football team – in return, the lads named the team The Royal Oak FC.
Terry and June have continued to support the lads, providing them with chip butties on a Sunday after the match and also letting them use the function room for free for their annual race night which raises funds for pitch costs, kits, referees fines etc.
The club has had little success but Paul and Steve still believe they can one day take the team into the Meadowhall Premier League where they will be able to pit their wits against the cream of the crop in Sheffield’s Sunday league.
The club’s slogan is “Together as One”.
Now, on with the show…
