Watch as Fortuna Düsseldorf defender Tobias Levels cries after a string of abuse from his team’s own fans.

After making a mistake which led to an opposition winner in the 78th minute of a 2.Fußball-Bundesliga clash with promotion hopefuls TSV 1860 München, the defender was subjected to constant chants of:

Levels Raus!

… or:

Levels Out!

… from the Fortuna supporters on Friday night.

Levels was already a bit of a club boo-boy after making a similar mistake in a cup game previously and many fans have never warmed to him thanks to his past captaincy of local rivals Borussia Mönchengladbach.

Levels, who was later substituted, was brought to tears by the abuse.

In moving scenes though, the supporters appear to soften after seeing this glimpse into the 26-year-old loanee’s human-side and, as the last of the players leave the field, chant simply:

Tobias Levels!

A tearful Levels, clearly touched by events, walks back towards the Fortuna end and applauds the crowd before being comforted by his team-mates.
