Sky Sports were forced to apologise after former Manchester United defender Patrice Evra claimed that rumours surrounding Wilfried Zaha and then manager of the club David Moyes’s daughter affected the player’s time there.
Appearing as a pundit in the studio for coverage of Manchester United’s 1-3 defeat to Crystal Palace at Old Trafford, Evra repeated the unfounded speculation regarding Zaha and Lauren Moyes – despite the player saying the pair have never even met each other.

Evra spoke of the Crystal Palace forward’s tumultuous time at United while Moyes was in charge during the live broadcast on Saturday:
I remember what ruined his career for Manchester United is when he had this true or untrue affair with David Moyes’s daughter.
Because, in the pre-season, I remember he was playing every game but when that news came out [he was] out of the game and he disappeared.

Presenter Kelly Cates was then apparently told to trot out the following apology:
We have to clarify a comment made earlier in the programme suggesting that there may have been a relationship between Wilfried Zaha and David Moyes’s daughter.
We understand that Wilfried Zaha has never met David Moyes’s daughter and that the claim made by Patrice was false and we apologise for any offence caused.
