Scott Brown and Scott Arfield kicked each other instead of the ball in a drop-ball situation during the Old Firm derby between Rangers and Celtic.

A typically feisty encounter at Ibrox reached absurd levels when referee John Beaton restarted play by dropping the ball between the opposing midfielders.

However, instead of either player retaining possession, they stuck the boot into each other.

There is of course the chance that they both missed, but passions do run high on derby day between the two Glasgow giants.

Ryan Jack scored his first Rangers goal to put Steven Gerrard’s side in front on the half-hour mark and they managed to hold on for a valuable 1-0 win.

The result takes them level on points with Celtic at the top of the Scottish Premier League table, with Kilmarnock and Aberdeen both in hot pursuit.
