Referee Darren Drysdale squared up to Ipswich midfielder Alan Judge before booking him during Tuesday night’s 0-0 draw with Northampton.
The League One match at Portman Road flared up late on when Judge went down in the area and was incensed not to get a penalty.
After an exchange of words, Drysdale locked heads with him before the pair were separated.

The official later said:
I can only apologise to Alan and Ipswich Town.
I fully understand it is important for us as referees to maintain our composure throughout the game and always engage with players in a professional manner.
I’m sorry that I did not do that.
