Preston manager Graham Westley sometimes cuts a controversial figure, but is currently being heralded as a hero after meeting some fans at a petrol station.
Preston’s away game at Bury in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy on Tuesday night was cancelled an hour before kick-off due to a water-logged pitch, despite referee Gary Sutton giving the all clear at 6.30pm.
Naturally the fans who had made the 30-mile trip to Gigg Lane were slightly disappointed. However their spirits were lifted as manager Graham Westley came over to their mini-bus and offered to cover their petrol money and a round of soft drinks.
