Irish current affairs programme The Tonight Show laid into an independent Irish politician for his defence of FAI Executive Vice President John Delaney in an incredible exchange.

Delaney was controversially given a newly-created role within the country’s football association after stepping down as FAI chief executive amid news that, at one point, he had needed to loan the organisation 100,000 euros “to aid a very short-term cash flow issue”.

The Tonight Show presenter Ivan Yates went after the distinctive figure of Teachta Dála for the Kerry constituency Michael Healy-Rae, who had been invited on the show following his support for the organisation’s decisions.

The two sides sat at opposite ends of the table while insulting each other in the segment on the television show.
