A team from Austin won a state title for the first time ever last weekend as the high school secured the Texas Class 4A with a 1-0 win over Wylie East.
A somewhat inevitable pitch invasion occurred after the final whistle as friends, family and fellow supporters wanted to join each other for the special moment.
But what happened next has caused outcry in the local media, as well as an investigation at the neighbourhood police department.
Captured by a spectator in the stands, this shocking footage appears to show a police officer kicking, pushing and “violently tripping” the young celebrating Vandegrift fans as they run onto the field of play.
News outlet KXAN is reporting that the officer concerned is now under investigation by the Georgetown Police Department.
