VIDEO: Player’s laces caught on studs of opponent in South Korea v Syria qualifier

Alaa Al Shbli and Koo Ja-cheol both sent crashing to the turf in unlikely coming together.

In this clip, a player’s laces get caught on the studs of an opponent, sending them both crashing to the turf during South Korea v Syria.

Alaa Al Shbli goes to tackle Koo Ja-cheol and the two somehow become entangled, tripping them both up and leaving them appealing for help.

The World Cup qualifier, which took place yesterday at the Seoul World Cup Stadium, ended in a 1-0 win to the home side.

Despite losing out here, the Syrian football team has been receiving plenty of plaudits for putting themselves in contention for Russia 2018 despite a devastating civil war.

They claimed a remarkable 1-0 victory in China and won by the same score at home to Uzbekistan, while they’ve drawn 0-0 at home to Iran and yesterday’s opponents South Korea.

However, they’ve also lost away to Qatar, Uzbekistan and Japan, the latter ending 5-0 to the hosts.

South Korea midfielder Koo plays for Bundesliga side Augsburg and has scored ten goals in 47 appearances.
