A fan managed to get onto the pitch at Mallorca in an attempt to get a selfie with Barcelona’s Lionel Messi during their 0-4 win there, despite a ban on supporters entering the stadium.

Spainish La Liga games have resumed behind closed doors following an easing of lockdown restrictions during the current COVID-19 pandemic.

However, a pitch invader wearing an Argentina shirt with Messi’s name and number on the back was seen on live coverage of the game running into the action early in the second-half.

He claims to have climbed over a two-metre high fence in order to gain access to Mallorca’s Iberostar Estadio in the Balearics on Saturday.

Reportedly declining to give his name, the French resident of the Mediterranean island told radio station Cadena Cope:

I had planned this ever since I knew the match was happening, I wanted a photo with Messi and to meet him because he’s my idol.

I got a photo but it wasn’t a very good one and the police made me delete it.

I stopped with Jordi Alba to tell him I was going for Messi.

It was a nice experience.
