In this clip, a former Pablo Escobar hitman is welcoming Argentine striker Ezequiel Rescaldani to Colombian side Atlético Nacional.

John Jairo Velásquez Vásquez, known as Popeye, participated in more than three thousand murders on the notorious drug lord’s behalf.

He served twenty-two years in a maximum-security prison before he was granted parole in 2014, eight years early.

Like his deceased former boss, Popeye is a Nacional fan and took it upon himself to welcome Rescaldani to the club.

His message in the video, filmed by Escobar’s graveside, translates roughly as:

Hello champion, I’m Popeye, Pablo Escobar’s trusted Hitman. I have survived my boss’s wars and my own.

I stand today at my boss’s grave. Argentinian brother, welcome to Medellín, welcome to Nacional.

Here we love the Argentinians, and they support me in my new opportunity in society. All my support and respect to you, Ezequiel.

We will meet and come to my boss’s grave together, as I know you like the story.
