It’s the end of an era. AC Milan have finally taken Burp legend Mario Balotelli from us and returned him to Italy.

The charismatic but controversial striker left Manchester City in a deal reportedly worth an initial £19m.

A group of Milan fans gathered outside a restaurant where the player was enjoying a delicious dinner with club vice-president Adriano Galliani on Wednesday night and caused a bit of a ruckus.

Jumping and singing “Chi non salta è nerazzurro” (“Who does not jump is an Inter fan”), they seemed very pleased with Mario’s arrival and even had Balotelli and Galliani joining in.

The fans wouldn’t leave and police eventually had to charge into them and use tear gas too disperse the crowd. A “few” policemen were hospitalised. although their injuries are described as “not serious”.
