Watch as an exuberant, perhaps drunken, Irish fan pours beer on a German Sky Sports News reporter before Republic of Ireland’s World Cup qualifying clash with Germany at the Rhein Energie Stadium on Friday.

In this clip you can see the SSN presenter roaming the streets of Cologne before coming across the outside area of a bar populated with some of the loyal travelling Ireland support.

A few brief, impromptu interviews are held before one Irish fan pours his glass of beer over the reporter’s head while holding the microphone in his other hand.

The tall German takes the entire incident in his stride though, embracing his assailant and celebrating with his new foreign pal.

Germany were eventually victorious, securing a 3-0 home win thanks to goals from Sami Khedira as well as new Premier League arrivals André Schürrle and Mesut Özil.

The match ended in controversy as Republic of Ireland captain Robbie Keane was involved in a furious row with Germany manager Joachim Low after the full-time whistle.

The pair had to be separated after an argument on the touchline after Keane appeared to accuse Low of refusing to shake caretaker manager Noel King’s hand.
