Own goal… Disaster (Image: YouTube/U.S. Soccer)

See the disastrous Germany own goal that gave the United States a 2-0 lead during an international friendly in Washington DC on Sunday.

A costly mistake from 21-year-old Borussia Mönchengladbach goalkeeper Marc-André ter Stegen after 17 minutes gifted the Americans a two-goal cushion in a match they went on to win 4-3.

Goals from Jozy Altidore and Tottenham’s Clint Dempsey along with Benedikt Howedes’s own goal ensured that the USA, coached by none other than Jürgen Klinsmann, stormed to victory against a significantly weakened German side.

The Germany line-up was missing key players from top domestic teams Bayern Munich, who clinched a treble on Saturday as they won the German Cup, and Borussia Dortmund.

In fact, the only player to play against the United States from either of the Champions League finalists was Dortmund’s Sven Bender and the Germans ended up only naming one recognised forward in their entire squad.

Don’t let that minor detail spoil your enjoyment though, watch the video of the horror Germany own goal below:
