The plane carrying the victorious United States team was given a water cannon salute as it touched down on its return from the Women’s World Cup in France.
Jill Ellis’s side emerged as tournament winners with a 2-0 win over the Netherlands in Sunday’s final at the Parc Olympique Lyonnais.

After landing on the runway back at Newark Airport, the plane was treated to an eye-catching reception by fire trucks carrying water cannons.
The team will also receive a ticker tape parade in the “Canyon of Heroes” in Manhattan on Wednesday, the first such event since they won the 2015 World Cup.
