A squirrel interrupted National league leaders Leyton Orient’s 3-0 win over Maidstone United at Brisbane Road on Saturday.

Justin Edinburgh’s team halted a short run of defeats by comfortably beating relegation-candidates Maidstone.

But play had to be briefly paused while the crowd watched the small animal scurry around on the grass.

Supporters sung about the squirrel pitch invader that seemed to capture the hearts of the 5,488-strong attendance for the non-league game.

Goals from Jordan Maguire-Drew and Macauley Bonne were enough for Leyton Orient to strengthen their position at the top of the table after rivals Solihull Moors lost to Fylde.
