Cyprus captain Jason Demetriou was sent off deep into added time of their Nations League group game in Slovenia on Tuesday night following a tackle in which he made very little attempt to play the ball.
The 30-year-old Cypriot Southend United player clattered into Slovenia’s Domen Črnigoj in an effort to prevent him reaching the ball that had been pushed past the pair of them.
The League C Group 3 match finished 1-1 with Demetriou’s red card the last of three in a bad-tempered second-half at Stožice Stadium in Ljubljana.
