Cardiff City manager Neil Warnock said “tell Gary Lineker to f*** off” without realising he was on air in Canada while speaking to a Match of the Day reporter.

Speaking before a post-match interview following his side’s 2-0 win over Bournemouth on Saturday, Warnock got wind of who he was speaking to and said:

Match of the Day? Tell Gary Lineker to f*** off. Oh, have you caught that on camera?

He called me Colin. Can I say, ‘I’m Colin here’? You don’t know why I’m Colin do you? Right.

Warnock is referred to as ‘Colin’ by his detractors as his name is an anagram of ‘Colin W*nker’.

BBC anchor Lineker used the epithet when tweeting a link to Warnock’s recent pro-Brexit comments, in which he said “to hell with the rest of the world”.

The Bluebirds claimed a valuable three points in their fight against relegation thanks to two goals from Bobby Reid.

It was their first home game since the disappearance of new signing Emiliano Sala in a plane crash.
