Watch the moment a caller pretending to be Shay Given manages to get onto Sky Sports News, only to be cut off once the mistake becomes clear.

SSN were seeking reaction to the news that Stoke City goalkeeper Jack Butland will be out for three months after picking up an injury during England’s 3-2 friendly win in Germany.

They evidently thought they’d lined up one of their trusty contacts, and a relevant one given that 39-year-old Given is now Butland’s understudy at Stoke – but it was just a prankster doing a bad impression.

Credit to the presenter for quickly realising it wasn’t the Republic of Ireland veteran on the other end of the line, or indeed to any producers who might have been screaming down his ear.

Nevertheless, the hoax Given still gets the satisfaction of hearing, “Okay Shay, thanks for joining us on the line tonight, we’ll speak to you again soon,” before he is sent packing.

All in all, we learn that pretending to be Shay Given will only get you so far before someone twigs. Still, good effort, that man.
