Lincoln City had a 30-year-old mascot on his stag do leading them out before a game against Yeovil Town on Friday night.

Groom-to-be Alex Newbold was only told what he’d be doing after arriving at Lincoln’s historic Sincil Bank ground with friends.

The League Two side helped them set him up and videoed the whole thing, beginning with the purchase of a new kit in the club shop.

Just 45 minutes after being informed of his fate, Newbold was in full kit, introducing himself to the other, younger mascots in the tunnel.

He told LincolnshireLive:

When someone gives you a bag containing a kit it does not occur to you as a 30-year-old man that you’re going to be a mascot – I thought the kit was a nice surprise.

The children’s theatre actor, who reportedly most recently played Dipsy in Teletubbies Live, went on to apologetically join captain Luke Waterfall as the teams emerged onto the pitch:

I said that for his dignity I wouldn’t hold his hand.

His experience continued in typical fashion as the pre-match handshake with the opposition players followed.
