An infuriated Stan Collymore has joined the Scottish National Party and cancelled his Labour membership after discovering 66 opposition MPs had voted with the government to attack ISIS in Syria.

In a now deleted tweet, the outspoken former footballer posted a photo of his Labour membership card – cut in half.

Despite apparently having “only rejoined Labour a couple of months ago,” the 44-year-old republican seems to have been hit by a wave of Scottish nationalism and asked his followers to clarify if an Englishman was indeed even allowed to join the SNP.

The Staffordshire-born pundit, who reportedly lives in Cannock Chase, has a history of getting involved in political debate and was criticised last year by a Royal Navy veteran for claiming Britain “thieved” the Falkland Islands.

Collymore lashed out at other users and a journalist questioning his decision, then tried to make his feelings clear with a series of tweets following the intensely-debated vote that passed the motion with a majority of 174:
