Referee Marta Galego suspended play and had a fan ejected in a Catalonian second division Group 6 clash between UE Valls and Cambrils Unió on Sunday after she was told to “go wash the dishes” following a controversial decision.

Enforcing new fair play rules drawn up by the Catalan Football Federation that allow officials to stop a match if abuse is heard from the stands, she was not impressed with the sexist remark and had the offender thrown out of the 2,500-seater Del Vilar stadium.

Reportedly a regular, the supporter is said to have taken three minutes to leave before Galego and her two assistants restarted the match to a standing ovation from the remainder of the crowd.
