A pretty poor attendance at the Aviva tonight, but at least one fan was prepared to bring up some real issues. pic.twitter.com/rDtDlbaqms

A “free Steven Avery” banner was spotted at the 0-0 draw between Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland, referring to Netflix series Making A Murderer.

Avery was wrongly convicted of sexual assault and attempted murder in 1985 and went on to serve 18 years of a 20-year sentence before he was exonerated by DNA testing and released.

He was then convicted of murder in an unrelated case two years later, with the unfurling events documented in the series.

It certainly offers more in the way of talking points than the goalless friendly match at the Aviva Stadium on Thursday night.
