Czech striker Matej Vydra scored a fifth consecutive brace to help Watford to a 3-0 win at Nottingham Forest on Sunday, a result which leaves Gianfranco Zola’s Hornets well-placed in the race for automatic promotion to the Premier League. Football Burp paid a visit to WFCForums.com and GloryHorns.co.uk to see what the Vicarage Road faithful had to say about their in-form side and new goal-scoring hero…

Absolutely loving this side
CheesusKY…
I do now think we’re the best side in the division
Donaldo…
This is a special team.

without this sounding arrogant, did you see our bench today?
forestieri, hogg, geijo, yeates, hall, eustace, bond. these seven could beat some championship sides on their own. our squad is ridiculous.

Fantastic day out – one of the best away trips I’ve made in in a while
I was genuinely nervous about this one, as an indicator of our ability to compete at the top end of the table. Utter professionalism is how I would describe it. We managed the early storms at the beginning of both halves so well, and you can just see how quick we are to nick the ball at the back and quickly transfer onto attack. I was a bit nervous about Lloyd up against Blackstock in the air, but he coped well and Zola made a great switch bringing Hall on and moving him out right.
Once again, no bad performances. Battochio continued to improve (very tricky player), Chalobah was imperious as usual, and the back three (particularly Ekstrand) were composed. Deeney MOTM for me. I don’t think it is just a case of working hard with him, he has some genuine skill and pace, and his awareness is as sharp as I’ve seen it. Vydra writes his own headlines so we don’t need to talk about him!
I like Zola’s approach to the rest of the season. As the results role in and the hype builds, his biggest task is to prepare the squad for 18 individual cup finals. We won’t win them all, and in recent months our success has been bouncing back quickly when we do lose (Hull and Charlton).
Anyway, yesterday’s performance has sealed my decision to head to Bristol on Tuesday – where hopefully we see more of the same!

Yup you have to give Zola credit, there’s an increasing amount of other clubs fans with the notion we have imported all of Udineses best players = we haven’t. Yes a few would get into some PL matchday squads but in reality our current success is a collective and mostly down to Zola’s superior tactics. He was not far wrong when he said English teams can’t play against a 3-5-2, certainly not at this level and certainly not when our players all do their jobs correctly. It’s not even his favourite formation but for a 3-4-3 you really do need a Patrick Viera and although Chaloboah is well on his way, unfortunately he is not ours.

We only scored three, we only scored threeeeee.
How good must they be? We only scored three!
What a season!

good to see all those goals in one place. one thing it made me realise, was that fair enough vydra is a great finisher, but troy deeney is his perfect foil.

I really believe Vydra could be the championship top scorer come the end of the season.
When was the last time Murray scored for palace as it seems he’s been on that number for ages.?

The Voice of Reason…
There are no less than 8 existing or previous WFC players on that list!!!

And to think some wanted Helguson back – level on goals with Johnnie Jackson
reids…
Wonder where Vydra would be on that list if he’d played the extra 500 minutes Murray has.
he’s one of those players where you just know it’s going to be a goal when it’s just him and the keeper, so much like Messi in that aspect.
tom4…
I don’t think Messi is the right comparison, I was thinking more like Aguero of last season? Fast, agile, good on the ball and hard to knock down, not to mention filthy in front of the sticks.

When you watch all his goals together, you realise just how good his movement is. Chose the exact right moment to sprint against Forest, Birmingham, Brighton (2nd), the defenders couldn’t handle it. You also start to see the understanding he has with Abdi and Deeney.
ForzaWatford…
All his recent ones have been great interplay with Deeney and Abdi.

When opposition plays high Zola often picks Vydra to play in the space behind. With a single substitution Zola can change the whole strategy of the team, something I have never seen done so clearly before and a very powerful thing to have.
Smudger…
They’re pretty excited in the Czech Republic about him. All the hockey fans I know there know about him.
Irishorn…
There are many Watford strikers who have, in my time as a fan, brought great joy to our hearts. Luther for being Luther, John Barnes (mostly winger I know) for being one of the most skilful players I have every seen, Tommy Mooney for his heart and loyalty, Danny Graham for his goals and generosity, Ross Jenkins for helping Luther bring us to the big time, Mo Johnston for his brief stint but many goals, George Reilly for that goal, Alan Smart for that insurance goal, Gerry Armstrong for being Irish and an Orn, Henderson for trying his best in the Premiership, King (yeah, yeah) for getting us there, Young for hepling King and £9.6m.
Vydra has a way to go, but this boy is something else. He may not be here long for the long haul, but let’s enjoy his presence while he is.
Goldenboy1993…
In the last 6 championship games he has scored a goal every 42.8 minute of playing time, has a striker ever done that well at watford before?
Just to crank up the feelgood vibes, here’s Vydra tweeting a lovely picture at his strike partner Troy Deeney…
