Newcastle fans react to Leon Best’s Blackburn move

Remember this?

Er…anyway, here’s what Newcastle United fans have to say about striker Leon Best’s £3m-odd move to freshly relegated Blackburn Rovers…

Leon Best has joined Blackburn Rovers from Newcastle United
Leon… Out of character

Really appreciate his efforts for Newcastle, sort of proved us wrong when we got promoted and started scoring in the games he played. Will always remember that spell he had last year in January and managed to grab himself a hat trick against West Ham. Good player and seems a good enough lad, wish him all the best for the future.

good pro; can’t fault his attitude but ultimately not good enough for where we want to be. good luck to him. seems a lower league premiership club or a championship side is the right level for him.

Really like Best, scored some really important goals last season. A little bit dissapointed if he goes to Blackburn, think he could do better.

Its nice to have good players leaving for genuine reasons and not hating everyone that wants away. It shows how good a squad we are building when reasonably decent players are leaving and all I can do is wish them luck and hope they do well. Cant really recall this happening very often.

Keeps his head down (when on the ball) and works hard (to get in the managers favour) – Scored goals though (for us). Someone desperately needs to teach him the offside rule.

Good player who shouldn’t really be leaving. Played a big part in us avoiding the relegation fight in 10-11 and finishing 5th last time round.

I think he’s done well under Pardew in the Premiership, stepped up and scored some important goals after Carroll left and formed a solid partnership with Ba in the first half of last season that helped us stay near the top.

The biggest problem for me is his fitness as he seems to pick up niggling injuries, he’s better than Ameobi as back up IMO.

If we can bring in a better back up then go for it but unless we have a considerable amount to spend then I’d rather not ship him out and replace him with De Jong, we’ve got more important places to fill in the starting 11 than buying depth for the attack.

I’ll be glad to be rid of him. Not good enough for the Premier League and didn’t particularly impress for the top end of the championship either. I can’t really see why we ever bought him in the first place..
He puts the effort in but I can’t say that I’ve ever thought he looked more of a grafter than anyone else and his lack of a footballing brain ususally meant that the effort he was put in was wasted.
I’ve got nothing more than him not being good enough against him though so good luck to him at Blackburn.

Definitely had a strong contribution and I think it’s been underappreciated/acknowledged a bit. Did a lot of the pressing and hassling work for Ba and always worked his socks off while always maintaining a presence. Was always pushing for first team football with us and it’s good to see him wanting to play regularly.

I like Best because I like anyone that puts the graft in. Ultimately not good enough for where we want to be but has scored when we’ve needed to. All the best to the lad. We need two strikers brought in now though IMO. Unless we get De Jong and a young ‘un in, similar to Good (if he’s signed).

Further quotes from Pardew on Total Sport saying he wanted Leon to stay but knows he needs first team football which we can’t promise him. Said we’ve got a good fee for him which we can reinvest.
