Liverpool right-back Glen Johnson continued his impressive form with this blistering strike in Sunday’s 3-2 win at his former club West Ham United…
…so Football Burp mosied on down to online Reds joints Red and White Kop and This is Anfield to see what folk had to say about him…

At the time, I thought the fee was well over the top, I was wrong. He’s worth every penny, maybe more. He’s the best right-back in the league, he’s also up there as far as left-backs are concerned. He’s taken a great deal of unwarranted stick (sometimes from reds), he’s put his head down and shut them up, he’s one of the first names on the team-sheet.
Top player and a top man.

Absolute class act, is Glen. Don’t think I’d swap him for anyone else.

I think he is a world eleven footballer. Probably our only player who would get into a world eleven.

Johnno has been the unsung hero for both Liverpool and to a lesser extent for England for the last two years. You rarely see a supporter wearing kit with Johnson’s name and number on the back but I think he deserves so much more credit than he has been given. Such a consistent performer and such a mature character.
He has been really on top of his form. He has got to be one of the best attacking and defensive fullbacks in the world right now really. Certainly the best British right back right now.
I think Johnson really needs a song.
LucasLeiva, Red and White Kop…
He’s not a world 11 footballer, I still think Arbeloa was better for us there. He is at the top of his game with us and is brilliant going forward though, in form and a great asset to the team.

Its an indictment of our team that I’d rather see four Glen Johnsons taking up the LB,RB,LW, and RW spots than use our other players for them. On the other hand, its also a clear statement about how good this guy is. Even without his goal, he’s class on the ball, has good defensive positioning (remember when he used to get slagged off for this?) and seems to be a really good leader on the pitch.
Serious question: Who would you trade Glen for at RB? The only answer I can even consider would be Alves. And even then I don’t know if I’d take the trade.
And he’s a classy guy, you have to respect a player for not celebrating a goal against their boyhood club, especially a goal like that.
KirkVanHouten, Red and White Kop…
He could play any position on the pitch well IMO.

We have few world class footballers at this club but Glen is definitely one. Class goal today to add to his tally in the capital for us.

He played really well going forward but don’t you think he was too lax in giving Jarvis the time and space to cross the ball? Started doing it again at the end as well.

I was definitely skeptical when we went out and splashed 17mil for him. He did come good with the right coaches and right group of players around him. Our most dangerous player in the attacking half, a fullback, says it all.

For large periods of the game it looked like he was the only one capable of carrying the ball out of defense. He wasn’t supported by Cole as well as by Downing before the change, otherwise, he would have been my MOTM.

Very good goal and I respect his decision not to celebrate. Otherwise, a good performance. It seems that majority of our defenders are somewhat late bloomers, though Johnson’s truly bad spell was the one under Hodgson. Under Rafa, Kenny (for major part) and Rodgers, he has been one of the first names on the teamsheet and pretty deservedly. Let’s hope he stays fit and firing on all cylinders.

? At those saying he was at fault for Jarvis goal. Really? Didn’t look that way. Haven’t seen a replay mind. Regardless, great game.
I’m an idiot though for predicting he’d score on here and then telling archie and hass I was going to bet on him to score first…and then forgetting to do so before we got to the ground

Glad to see Johnson getting the plaudits he deserves.
Been absolutely massive for us since Kenny came in. Clarke has improved him defensively so much.
I picked him as my player of the season for last season, many didn’t agree with me at the time, but as TCB said on the previous page… we really miss him when he’s out. That was a key factor for me last season, when we were without Johnson we’d really struggle for defensive consistency.A wonderfully taken goal today, we all know he has it in his locker from his time at Pompey. It’s great to see him becoming a huge attacking threat again.
Would like to see him hesitate less often, but I suppose thats the unpredictability he provides.Probably just behind Suarez for me in terms of our best player this season.
