This week’s Humble Pie is a gratefully accepted affair as West Ham United fans, who were generally unreceptive to the appointment of Sam Allardyce as Irons boss, line up to attest to the error of their ways in the wake of the Hammers’ 3-1 win over Chelsea at Upton Park…

Must admit I didn’t want him anywhere near us but, from what I’ve seen, and I only really get to watch us on the telly, we’re playing some nice stuff at times and we desperately need some stability.
When I saw Caroll wasn’t playing I thought we would toil today. I was wrong. Changes needed to be made and were made, early enough to make the required difference.

I’m 37 and have been a Hammer for 32 years. I truly believe Big Sam to be our best manager in my lifetime. He has inspired us to wins, especially away from home, that even the great John Lyall wouldn’t have done. The biggest signing we can make in the short term is to lengthen the contract of a man who is clearly happy to stay with us.

If any of the doubters still feel that he aint the man, ask yourself the following question:
Who else could have got our shambles of a club back up at the first attempt, give us a never-say-die attitude, make us a team that nobody wants to play, and have us on 22pts with the really nasty run of fixtures we have had in the past 6 weeks?
Uncle Albert, West Ham Online…
He stopped his car outside the Boleyn and signed Autographs today. Fair play to him, he’s done a great Job

It is nice to go into games like todays and not think, “we’ll lay down and die.”

The difference he brings is the inspired way we played in that second half. Under those before him we would have played second half like first and got spanked. Earned my respect !
kthammer, Knees Up Mother Brown…
He was outstanding today. Kept his nerve, kept us in the game and then at half time makes a bold change and gets everyone up and at them. He completely out-thought and out-motivated Benitez

Gotta love Sam for what he’s acheived, for too long we have been easy touch, but he definitely has everyone scrapping for one another….and to see him jumping around showing the passion I wanna see our gaffer have when we stuff the European champions!!! In big sam we trust :-)

One shudders to think what’ll happen once Big Sam is finally able to put out his strongest team on a regular basis, remember we’ve also got Benayoun, Diarra, Collison and Vaz Te back soon. Cole and/or Maiga may find their groove once they’re starting to play regularly. And imagine Jarvis becoming the winger for us we all anticipated him to be when he signed…
So this will be one of the more relaxed transfer windows for us with us being virtually safe already.
We don’t necessarily have to bring in new players and can watch other teams paying over the odds out of desperation for a change, how nice is that ?

I’m well chuffed.
Admittedly, it’s been an easy start and we have a tough period now, but I have faith in us.
We look organised with a way of playing. We have bought well and with a plan, not just throwing money at random players.
We have a good, balanced midfield and an excellent captain.
BFS is doing a great job and I love knowing that we are being run properly for the first time in years.
Mr P, Knees Up Mother Brown…
Changed the game with his substitutions and his tactics in the second half were spot on.
How can you not love him after seeing his celebration when Maiga scored the third? He enjoyed that every bit as much as the fans did, and showed it
Bleeding Claret, West Ham Online…
Best I’ve seen us for many years…..incredible.
A couple of tasty signings in the summer and we can really start going places at last.

I never liked Sam, didn’t want him as manager but i have sat back and given him a chance and can truly appreciate what he has given us!
What a breathtaking change to have a manager with some balls to stand up and say to our players having a bad day “Pull your ****ing finger out your playing like a ****” and to be honest that showed second half today – He epitomises the winning mentality! The football second half today was brilliant and tbh Chelsea simply did not have an answer!
In Sam i trust
Big Sam’s Claret & Blue Army!!!!

This team, is without question one of the fittest and hardest working I can remember for a long long time.
The Gibbins, Knees Up Mother Brown…
I was firmly against Sam, but this guy has impressed me so much! I just love the team spirit and competitive edge we have whatever team we put out. We had an under strength side against the European Champions and come out victorious.
ereford hammer, Knees Up Mother Brown…
He has earned my respect. It is great to see the hammers play with a backbone with a skipper that has the spirit of Bonzo. Sam is a good tactician and will attract the players we need.

great seeing big sam celebrating the third goal like that
he’s totally transformed our mentality and whatever he said at half time must have been inspirational
just got back from game and still grinning from ear to ear
Matt of iron, Knees Up Mother Brown…
I was hugely against Sam thinking he would bring awful football to us and make the club even more of an embaressment.
I couldn’t have been more wrong.
Give this man a new contract now.

allardyce is god
why we dont sing his name dumbfounds me
the bloke has dragged us out of the slums of 2nd tier football to handsomely beating chelsea in 18months
ponder, Knees Up Mother Brown…
I think he’s done a great job and I dearly hope he stays on at the end of the season. I can’t see any reason why he wont. The Daves have clearly bought into what Sam’s doing – which is evident from the way they backed him in the transfer window and their general media silence, and from Sam’s side, he appears to have developed a genuine affinity with the club, something which he probably hasn’t experienced since his time at Bolton. Then you have the players, who all speak very highly of him in interviews and are clearly willing to bust a gut for him on the pitch. Add to that the fact that only a small minority of so called fans seem to be against him now, and it would appear to be a no-brainer all round.
Despite our great start to the season, we’re still very much a team in transition. It’s exciting to think what Big Sam would be able to build over the next 2-3 years given the right backing.
