Aston Villa, Birmingham City, Coventry City, West Bromwich Albion and Wolverhampton Wanderers have all completed the signing of Liam Ridgewell.
The versatile defender, 27, has completed each of the relevant medicals and will make his Wolves debut in tonight’s Molineux clash with Liverpool, most likely in a defensive midfield position as a replacement for the suspended Karl Henry.
On what promises to be a busy night for Ridgewell, he will also travel to Leeds with Chris Hughton’s Birmingham squad for their match at Elland Road, and he shall also line up at the heart of Andy Thorn’s back four as Coventry City take on Blackpool at Bloomfield Road.
Tomorrow night shall see Ridgewell making his second Aston Villa debut as they welcome QPR to Villa Park, while he shall simultaneously operate at left-back for West Brom as they travel to Martin Jol’s Fulham.
In a joint statement, Alex McLeish, Chris Hughton, Andy Thorn, Roy Hodgson and Mick McCarthy said: “We are delighted to welcome Liam to the club and we hope that his versatility shall prove invaluable to us as we fight relegation/chase promotion/consolidate a mid-table position (delete as applicable).
“We appreciate that the lad will have his work cut out training and playing for five different teams at the same time, but we’ve been showing him videos of Bugs Bunny playing baseball and he seems to be responding well.
“We would all also like to make it clear that Craig Gardner is welcome back from Sunderland whenever he likes. We miss him, and his proclivity for twenty-five-yard screamers.”
Ridgewell said: “Oi down’t wanna take the Slough train, oi wanna take the fast train!”
He added: “Kipper tie?”
