Tottenham Hotspur were this morning still celebrating after a momentous 2-1 defeat in Monaco saw them qualify for the Europa League.
Mauricio Pochettino’s side resoundingly met expectations as they booked a spot in Europe’s secondary competition, renowned for being one they’ll fancy themselves in until they get knocked out in the quarter-finals to whoever happens to be 9th in the Bundesliga at that particular moment.
Spurs’s Europa League qualification also ensured they hit back at critics brought out of the woodwork by their ignominious Champions League exit, ironically also confirmed by last night’s defeat in Monaco.
Speaking exclusively to Football Burp, Steve, a Tottenham fan from Tottenham, remained philosophical.
He said: “At the end of the day, the rebranded and reformatted Europa League is what it’s all about.
“I’ll certainly be keeping a keen eye on the reams of Belgian and Portuguese teams who can still knock each other out of the groups.
“And I’ve just booked every Thursday off work for the next twelve years. Come on you Spurs!”
Nigel, a Tottenham fan from Manor House, was unavailable for comment.
