Ronald Koeman edged closer to getting sacked as Tottenham Hotspur manager in roughly one year’s time with a stunning 8-0 win over a hapless Sunderland.

The Southampton boss, apparently shrewd, saw his current side run riot in an orgy of woeful opposition defending and own goals that would make your mother wince.

With his predecessor Mauricio Pochettino having already spent several months in the Tottenham hot seat, far exceeding the expected shelf life of a Spurs manager, Koeman is said to be “poised”.

Speaking exclusively to Football Burp, the former Holland defender outlined his ambitions to flee the St Mary’s Stadium for a swift heave-ho at White Hart Lane.

He quipped: “For sure this is every manager’s dream.

“To enjoy relative success at a smaller club then undoing all the good work by jumping ship to an absolute basket case of a club – this is what we are all in management for.

“It’s funny, if you were to say to a Saints fan right now that in a year’s time they’ll consider Ronald Koeman to be an object of disdain and ridicule, they would take issue.

“But it is true. Like wars and pestilence, ill-advised managerial moves are destined to echo throughout the ages.

“I’ll be a laughing stock yet, you wait and see.”
