Liverpool thrashed Barcelona 4-0 to retain the International Pre-Season Optimism Trophy for a record 23rd consecutive year.

Jürgen Klopp’s side comprehensively dismantled the La Liga giants at Wembley to keep their hands on the coveted silverware.

Goals from new signings and one old one saw the Reds hammer Luis Suárez and co to apply further gloss to their illustrious history.

Sadio Mané struck early to underline his potential to be Liverpool’s finest signing from Southampton to date.

And Daniel Sturridge started the season in typical fashion by missing the start of the season.

Speaking exclusively to Football Burp, Ste, a buoyant Liverpool fan from Buoyantsley, described himself as “especially buoyant”.

He said: “I’m in excessively bullish mood even for me.

“This is our year. This, this year. Ours. I really mean it this time.

“You could argue I said last year was our year, and the one before that, and so on and so forth.

“But I’d argue shut your pie hole, that’s what I’d argue.

“Divock’s gonna get ya! Divock’s gonna get ya!”

Football Burp awarded him ten out of ten for Origi-nality.

UPDATE: Liverpool may be stripped of their trophy after getting thrashed by Mainz.
