Everton manager Ronald Koeman celebrated his side’s 2-1 win over Arsenal by instructing his brother Erwin to “get on the wire” and tell the world how they did it.
The Dutchman successfully ended the Gunners’ long unbeaten run with a revolutionary game plan that included tackling, heading and direct passes to a big centre-forward.
Despite Arsène Wenger’s protestations that football should be an entirely non-contact sport, referee Mark Clattenburg permitted the heading and tackling as Everton prevailed.
As the full-time whistle sounded, Ronald was seen turning to Erwin and saying “get on the wire, tell the world how to take those sons of bitches down” before nonchalantly lighting a cigar.
Erwin Koeman said: “I said, ‘What do you mean ‘wire’? We don’t have a wire.
“In the end I sent a group WhatsApp, but I appreciate the quote sounds more iconic with ‘wire’.”
