A coalition of executive wedding planners have undersigned a written request to Wayne Rooney asking that he cease all football activity with immediate effect.

The top-of-the-range consultants were angered to discover that Rooney had been playing for England the night before he was booked for a ceremony.

Spokespeople for the companies agreed that the Man Utd star had jeopardised his involvement in the wedding by participating in a World Cup qualifier against Scotland.

Speaking exclusively to Football Burp, one such spokesperson called on Rooney to show more respect for his professional duties.

They said: “What if he’d broken his wrist? That could seriously have hampered his piano-playing.

“We’ve got clients paying top whack to have the England captain mingling and entertaining at their weddings, so we’re frankly alarmed by his laissez-faire attitude.

“In the time he spent pratting about playing for England, he could have been learning magic tricks or celebrity impressions to enhance his act.

“At the end of the day, it doesn’t send out a good message to any aspiring young wedding entertainers who might be watching.

“We’d urge Wayne to think very carefully about the next stage of his career, because his pretence of still being a top footballer is wearing pretty damn thin.”
