There was widespread shock and amazement this morning as Leicester City full-back Danny Simpson was shortlisted for Miss Universe.
The pageant, formerly co-owned by Donald Trump, is usually contested by beautiful women from around the world and not Leicester defenders.
However, in what’s already being described as “the most remarkable nomination since Jamie Vardy’s for Ballon d’Or a few hours earlier”, Danny Simpson is in the running.
Although a Premier League title winner, Simpson’s credentials as a beautiful woman have been in doubt ever since his early days out on loan at Royal Antwerp.
His nomination crowns a momentous week for the Foxes after Bob Dylan’s rejected Nobel prize was diverted to Wes Morgan.
Speaking exclusively to Football Burp, Danny Simpson declared himself “champing at the bit” to “scoop the Miss Universe gong”.
He said: “I’m telling you, I’m champing for that gong.
“Winning the league was immense, but to be crowned world’s most beautiful woman would probably be the highlight of my career.
“Not many Leicester full-backs get that opportunity, so I’ll give it all I’ve got. I’ve already waxed my bikini line in preparation.
“And if I don’t win, at least I’ve always got Rear of the Year to fall back on.”
