Mourinho interview, Gerrard goal v USA and the top 5 ITV blunders

Jose Mourinho
This is Mourinho’s face a split second after being cut short by ITV

ITV were in fine form again the other night, cutting short Jose Mourinho’s post-match interview just as they looked to have a major scoop on their hands – if you haven’t seen it yet, here it is in all its laughable glory…

Of course, this isn’t the first time ITV have screwed up majorly in recent memory. Maybe they’re just unlucky, for twice they have switched off – almost literally – and been punished by missing a crucial goal. There was (or, if you happened to be watching ITV, wasn’t) Steven Gerrard’s fourth minute opener for England in a 2010 World Cup match against the USA…

…and Dan Gosling’s sensational last-gasp winner for Everton in the FA Cup against Liverpool when, for reasons best known to them, they cut to a Tic Tacs advert…

…thus spawning this dubious ‘tribute’ from Tictacs themselves…

However, their luck has improved of late – they managed not to miss anything particularly significant when they cut to some bloke getting ready for News at Ten during extra time of a Champions League semi-final between Real Madrid and Bayern Munich…

Ditto when they abandoned a recent Europa League match between Tottenham Hotspur and Lyon in the following baffling fashion…

As the video’s uploader ParkLaneSpud comments: “I’ve heard of parking the bus but this is ridiculous”!

There is one more ITV calamity that we can all agree on: one particular mistake that they repeat time and time and time again, no matter how much opprobrium, scorn and derision continues to come their way for it. Perhaps they don’t even realise the mistake they’re making, which is an altogether even more frightening proposition.

Anyway, prepare yourselves for ITV’s most shocking blunder of the lot…(those of a sensitive disposition might want to look away)…

Here it is…

No going back now…

Right, here we go:

Clive Tyldesley and Andy Townsend

Sorry. We did warn you.
