The Barcelona defender’s header from an Antoine Griezmann corner was enough to take Didier Deschamps’s men through to Sunday’s final.
Les Bleus will face either Croatia or England and will surely go in as favourites, twenty years on from their last World Cup triumph.
Thierry Henry was part of their side on that occasion but finds himself going out of the tournament tonight as a member of Belgium’s coaching staff.
