Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos is alleged to have breached anti-doping rules twice according to new revelations in Der Spiegel.
The defender is said to have tested positive for dexamethasone after the 2017 Champions League final against Juventus, a substance which is banned if testers are not informed of its use.
The German news magazine reports that doping control officers were told the player had taken a different anti-inflammatory drug.
The club blamed the mix-up on an unnamed doctor who supposedly noted down the wrong drug in the doping report because of the “euphoria” felt from winning the game.
It is also claimed that Ramos showered before a test by Spanish agency AEPSAD in April of this year, despite being warned that this would have serious consequences.
UEFA have responded by releasing a statement saying:
UEFA strongly and categorically refutes unfounded allegations it has covered up positive doping results.
